Alberta North

Thomas Phinney, Font Detective

Come join us for an entertaining talk that shows a totally different side of design knowledge.

GDC Alberta North is proud to present a speaking event featuring Thomas Phinney (FontLab, Adobe, Crafting Type), as heard on BBC and NPR, seen in the Washington Post, and presented at SXSW. Phinney is in town for the excellent Crafting Type workshop, and we couldn't be more excited to hear him tell us some wild stories.

Phinney has become known as the Font Detective for his analysis of forged documents like the Panama Papers that toppled the Prime Minister of Pakistan this year, and the National Guard memos that didn't stop President Bush’s 2004 re-election. Phinney has used his expertise as a type designer in a number of high profile cases to expose phonies and frauds—as well as legally inadequate typography (he’ll be talking about you, Justin Timberlake and will.i.am!).

This evening he will give us the rundown on about ten of his favorite cases, including:

- The Case of the Wicked Will
- The Secret of the Special Sack
- The Quarterback Conundrum
- The Machiavelli Mystery
- The Misleading Mortgage
- The Presidential Plot
- The Premier's Plunder
- The Case of the Concealed Credits
- The Respected Rabbi

Come join us for an entertaining talk that shows a totally different side of design knowledge.

Seating is limited, so please RSVP early!
