Canada hosted the 28th ico-D General Assembly and associated activities from
November 29 - December 1, 2019, at Emily Carr University in Vancouver BC.

Former GDC National President, Johnathon Vaughn Strebly CGD, was recently sworn in as ico-D President for the 2019-2021 term. He is the fourth GDC member to lead the organization. Other ico-D presidents from Canada include Walter Junkind (1974-77), Jorge Frascara (1985-87), and Robert L. Peters (2001-03).
“My interest in serving the Executive Board of ico-D is to further my contributions to the design industry through advocacy and public awareness to the value of design,” said Johnathon.
“The goals surrounding the understanding of the power of design in our community do not stop at the local level, or at the national level.”
GDC National President, Mark Rutledge CGD attended as the GDC’s voting delegate. "I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude and admiration and to congratulate Johnathon Vaughn Strebly, CGD," said Mark, "as he takes the helm as President of the International Council of Design (ico-D). Canada has a long history of contribution at the International level and this continues with him. Johnathon’s advocacy and passion for design will no doubt be an excellent addition to the International Design community."
