GDC BC Chapter Initatives

CreativeMornings Vancouver

The Vancouver Chapter of CreativeMornings is organized and hosted by Mark Busse (MarkBusse.ca) and his dedicated team of volunteers as a creative community engagement initiative of the BC chapter of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC). Special thanks to our support partners SFU Woodward’s, TILT Curiosity Labs (by HCMA), Fusion Cine, JJ Bean Coffee, Capilano University IDEA School of Design, Vancouver is Awesome, Shutterstock, MailChimp, Talent Collective, The Cultch, Brainstation, and SpaceFinder BC.

Interesting Vancouver

An annual event, Interesting Vancouver engages our diverse community by bringing together people for a fun and inspiring night. Our belief is that great ideas, inspiration, and perspectives come from unexpected connections—celebrating ordinary people doing extraordinary things in our community. The purpose of Interesting Vancouver is to expand the collective vision of possibility through stories, explorations, and discoveries.

Jim Rimmer Scholarship

The Jim Rimmer Community Scholarship for Design Award is awarded annually to students whose project supports a community program, social cause, non-profit, or an environmental or social cause.

LAUNCH! Career Development Conference

GDC BC’s annual career development conference for design students, graduates, educators, and employers. A two-day GDC/BC initiative aiming to help new and budding designers launch toward a successful design career.

Salazar Awards

The GDC/BC Salazar Student Awards, established in 1985 by the British Columbia Mainland Chapter of The Society of Graphic Designers of Canada, were created in honour of Enrique Salazar. Mr. Salazar was one of the founding members of the society and the national representative for the BC chapter for two years. He was a partner in Salazar Graphics, and taught graphic design at Capilano College until his death in June of 1985.
