WHAT IS SALAZAR AWARDS
The GDC/BC Salazar Student Awards, established in 1985 by the British Columbia Mainland Chapter of The Society of Graphic Designers of Canada, were created in honour of Enrique Salazar. Mr. Salazar was one of the founding members of the society and the national representative for the BC chapter for two years. He was a partner in Salazar Graphics, and taught graphic design at Capilano College until his death in June of 1985.
SALAZAR AWARDS EVENING PRESENTATION:
Jaybe Allanson - A few things I’ve learned as a designer so far!
Jaybe is currently the Design Director at Mobify leading a user-centered design team shipping the leading digital experience platform for ecommerce. Over the past 20 years Jaybe has had the pleasure of working within some amazing design teams across the city creating projects such as a 110-foot long interactive corridor during the 2010 Olympics, an AR walking tour of Vancouver's historic neon, shipping a VR and iPad training product for Perioperative Nurses, and today helping retailers produce amazing shopping experiences with Progressive Web Apps.
Jaybe fondly remembers being scared and intimidated entering the Vancouver design scene after graduating from Capilano’s Design and Illustration program in 1996. He will try and reduce the fears and uncertainty everyone faces as they begin their career as a designer in his talk: ‘A few things I’ve learned as a designer so far’. The talk will be full of helpful insights to help you be a more thoughtful designer.
