The Opportunity:

The City of St. Albert is committed to excellence in communications and is seeking a permanent full-time Graphic Designer and Multimedia Coordinator to join the Strategic Services & Information Technology department.

Working as part of a team, the position is responsible for:

Creating high quality graphic design for a wide range of print and online media, including advertising, displays, brochures, posters, newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, etc.

Coordinating the production and delivery of all products.

Working with vendors (printers, paper suppliers, photographers, newspapers, etc.) from conception to delivery.

Ensuring the City’s branding and visual identity standards are reflected in design.

Photography and videography services for City events.

Managing and maintaining the City’s photo library for use in design solutions promoting St. Albert.

Working closely with Communications Advisors and other City departments on various graphic design and multimedia projects.

The role requires a strong understanding of typography, layout, hierarchy and other graphic design principles. We seek an individual with strong problem-solving, organization, critical thinking, and negotiation skills. A person with strong communication skills and the ability to educate others on design thinking, process and principles would be well suited for the role.

Qualifications:

A University degree or diploma from a recognized Graphic Design or Visual Communications program combined with a minimum of three years of experience in a graphic design environment.

Fully conversant in the use of various computer graphic design programs and software, such as Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, Premiere, Light Room, Bridge), Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel).

Comfortable in a PC environment.

Knowledgeable about and comfortable using a DSLR camera.

Membership in the Graphic Designers of Canada would be an asset.

Hours of Work:

We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a regular day off [RDO] every two weeks).

There is a requirement to work occasional evenings and weekends.
