Medicine Hat College’s invites applications for a full-time Design Instructor in our Visual Communications program. This is a full-time position, and subject to successful completion of a two-year probationary period, will be a continuous appointment in the Division of Arts, Education, and Business. The appointment will commence July 1, 2019.

The primary program is the Bachelor of Applied Arts (Visual Communications), an applied degree program that combines instruction in studio arts, art history, and theory, with instruction in design and critical thinking. Housed in a beautiful, state-of-the-art new facility, our program seeks to prepare students for a range of career opportunities in the visual communications field.

Teaching load accompanying this position could include courses in Graphic Design I and II, Applied Visual Communications (senior level design), Typography I and II, Print Production, and Photography I and II. The ideal candidate will be well prepared to teach a conceptual approach to design and the creative process, and have a comprehensive knowledge of commercial printing (set-up, preflight layout, and file preparation in both PC and Mac formats). Also essential are good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other dedicated faculty in a close-knit department.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master of Arts in Graphic Design (MDes) is required
• 3 years’ experience teaching design, typography, and print production, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
• Industry experience in design.
• Equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
• Comprehensive knowledge in digital photography, photo-printing, and studio lighting would be an asset.
