The Eyes High 2017-2022 vision was recently re-energized following five years of institutional transformation. The updated vision, launched in the 50th Anniversary year of the University, will continue to provide the platform from which the university can leverage its momentum and aspirations. The University continues to serve as a beacon for change, for elevating excellence, and for building a strong community around a shared future vision to be recognized as a top 5 research university in Canada, with a strong focus on student experience, campus culture and entrepreneurial thinking.

With over 40 academics and 20 staff, the Faculty of Environmental Design offers graduate programs in architecture, landscape architecture and planning. Through small class sizes, the Faculty’s signature studio-based pedagogy ensures students understand how professional practitioners engage and solve design problems with projects of varying scales. We engage local, national, and international partners that further enhance learning and research networks. Through the lens of practice within this applied, collaborative, and community-based framework, the Faculty creates leaders in developing vibrant, resilient, healthy, and equitable environments.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the Dean is responsible for leadership of the Faculty and effective use of its resources. A high-profile community leader, the Dean builds relationships with government, corporate leaders, funding partners, and donors; and promotes academic research activities, generating enthusiasm, support and collaboration for the Faculty throughout the region and internationally.

The ideal candidate is a visionary leader who communicates the importance of design in the promotion of environmental and social well-being, who is able to align, develop, and implement organizational visions; and who inspiringly advocates for consensus across diverse communities. Preference will be shown to candidates with a Ph.D. or equivalent professional qualification, and extensive practical and administrative experience including experience in fund development.
