Problem/Need

MEC stopped providing disposable shopping bags to its customers. While members were encouraged to bring their own bags, it was important to provide an alternative for members who did not.

Strategy/Methodology

We designed a series of 3 bilingual bags that celebrated some of the members' favourite activities in a fun way that would encourage members to reuse the bags and provide the co-op with a memorable brand awareness mechanism.

Results/Impact

The bags sold like hot cakes in the stores and began to show up regularly on the street, on transit and in swimming pool change rooms. The design was a finalist at the 2010 Redgees awards
